Math: Saying Large Numbers

JMcGuire
This idea is for use in the math class. I teach middle school math and reading. This idea works for teaching ELLs (English Language Learners). This is great for practice on saying large numbers. Using TPR and the natural approach cut out graph paper into ones, tens, fifties, hundreds, and so on. Give students each a set of these number grids. Ask them to hold up the number 31 after you show them this. Then continue this with a set amount of numbers. After this set out three different numbe rs in the graph paper and have different students come up and show you the number "987,601." Another fun thing to do is have students close their eyes and pick out some cards randomly and tell you what they have set down.
