Listening: Fairytale of new York

This wasn't my idea, so all credit to the teacher who told me...
tell students a little about the background to the song (who The Pogues and Kirsty McColl are) and what the theme of the song is (love gone bad). It's a fantastic Christmas song.
Give the students the verses jumbled up so they have to sort out the pieces of the story themselves.
Then make them predict which parts of the song the man is singing and which part the woman sings... the two singers are slagging eachother off for most of the second half and it gives people a good laugh.
then play it! It's a great song and there's lots of good bits of advanced vocab in there...
p.s if the group is older or quite conservative I wouldn't advise playing it...
