Holidays: Gift Sentences

Here's a fun activity to do during Christmastime or at any time you'd like to build energy or cheer up your students. I call this activity GIFT SENTENCES. Here are the steps:

1. Cut the following sentences and their to/from lines into individual strips.

2. Hand out at least five strips to each student. (you may have to make more than one copy.)

3. Tell students to put their name next to every From:

4. Tell students to read the sentences, and decide who they want to give the sentences to.

5. Tell students they must also give each of their sentences to a different person (this insures that everyone in class gets a few).

6. Write on the whiteboard/blackboard, "Merry Christmas NAME, this is for you!" "Thank you very much, You shouldn't have."

7. Demonstrate that you want students to give out their gift sentences using this dialogue.

8. Once all sentences have been given out, put students into groups of 3 or 4, and have them tell each other about their 'gifts.' You should

demo this by saying, "Susan thinks that I have beautiful eyes!" Other students are encouraged to agree/disagree with the statement, talk about why the sentence was given etc. Everyone takes a turn with one sentence at a time until all sentences are used up. (You can also have students come up with one or two of their own to give out.) Here are the sentences I've used:
