Group Formation: Ransom Note

This is a good home work assignment for early in the new class period. Assign each student the task of finding and cutting out a few words from newspapers or magazines, anything that has large print, about 5 each should do. The next day have them attempt to arrange these random words into coherent English sentences. At the time of the assignment, you should recommend a good mix of nouns, verbs and modifiers to improve their chances of making good sentences. Break them into teams if the class is large enough. The excercise promotes team action and encourages students to speak to one another.
