Culture: Flags of the World

This is an activity using a laptop computer in the classroom. If you have PowerPoint or another presentation program, you can present images of flags to the class. I actually downloaded a shareware program from the Internet. I got the idea after a finding a great site of flags of the world at www.flags.net. I downloaded image files of the flags I liked and used them in the presentation application. Of course, I chose flags which I thought would not be instantly recognizable to my students. It worked. The students instinctly asked questions about each flag by themselves, such as "Is this country in Africa?" and "Is this a cold country?" The entire activity took about 30 minutes with about 20 flags even though I was expecting it to last only about 10 minutes.
