Why Hsinchu/Zhubei
Taiwan’s answer to Seattle and Bellevue in the United States, Hsinchu and Zhubei are home to 650,000+ people, prestigious universities, Taiwan’s most renowned tech companies, and a lot of coffee shops. Many ambitious young people and families call these two cities home for those exact reasons. If you are looking for the benefits of a big city with the pace and cost of living of something a bit smaller, Hsinchu and Zhubei are the perfect home base for teaching in Taiwan.
In Hsinchu and Zhubei, you will enjoy all the good things you have heard about Taiwan: friendly people, an open society, delicious and inexpensive local cuisine, safe cities, and easy access to the oceans and mountains. Hsinchu and Zhubei are the sorts of cities where you can begin your day at a 277-year-old temple having a traditional breakfast, sip coffee in a Japanese mansion, visit Taiwan’s oldest zoo and a unique glass museum (both located in the same park), bike along the coastline, venture into the mountains for a stroll, and try out a hot new Indian restaurant for dinner before relaxing at home. Hsinchu and Zhubei make it easy to explore at your own speed – you are never more than a short bus, bike, or scooter ride away from home or something new to discover.
Hsinchu and Zhubei are also an excellent home base for exploring Taiwan and the region. The high-speed rail connects us to the entire west coast. Want to pop over to the capital, Taipei, for a quick trip? It is only a 30-minute trip north. Want to experience the burgeoning metropolis of Taichung? Take a 30-minute trip south. Want to go a bit further? It only takes 90 minutes to reach the southern harbor city of Kaohsiung, gateway to Kenting and some of Taiwan’s best nature and beaches. Taiwan’s primary international airport is only about 45-60 minutes away in Taoyuan, putting the rest of East and Southeast Asia within easy reach.
