EPIK vs. Hagwons — What’s the Difference?

🏫 EPIK (Public Schools)

📘 Structured schedule (8:30–4:30)
🏖️ 18–21 vacation days + national holidays

📚 Hagwons (Private Academies)

🕒 Work schedule varies (e.g., 9–6 or afternoon/evening shifts)
🏖️ 11–15 vacation days (legally 11 minimum; varies by school)
🤝 Some hagwons offer co‑teaching depending on the school
👥 Small class sizes (typically 7–12 students)
💰 Starting salary is generally higher than public schools
🏠 Housing typically provided

Which One Is Right for You?

Qualifications

🌍 Passport holder from: US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa
🎓 Minimum Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution from previously mentioned countries
🛂 Clean national criminal background check (issued within 6 months)
📅 Ability to commit to a 12‑month teaching contract
📝 Eligible for an E‑2 or F‑series visa
📘 TEFL/TESOL or teaching experience preferred but not required
