A homeroom teacher is responsible for providing high-quality instruction for student achievement through a global citizenship lens by establishing a culture of creative and inquiry-based learning, a caring and safe learning environment, providing clear communication with students and parents, and appreciating diverse cultures and perspectives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Apply knowledge of subject matter content, pedagogy, and school and national curriculum resources to determine instructional outcomes and provide a coherent plan of instruction for students in math, English language arts, social studies, and science
• Create and implement instructional strategies that are data-driven to meet individual student learning needs
• Apply knowledge of student growth and development to establish and manage a safe, respectful and positive learning environment
• Have awareness of international child protection and safeguarding practices that are embedded in the daily supervision and wellbeing of students
• Establish and implement appropriate student academic learning goals based on the established
academic standards (e.g., Common Core, IPC)
• Design and administer learning plans using the UbD framework that are regularly documented via Rubicon Atlas
• Maintain accurate student records using PowerSchool/PowerTeacher
• Communicate and collaborate with parents on a proactive basis through established channels, including regularly scheduled newsletters, parent/teacher conferences, email, and school events
• Communicate and collaborate with other staff in a professional and collegial manner that focuses on improving instructional practice, student learning, and child wellbeing and safety practices
• Participate and engage in the school professional learning community through regular internal and external opportunities
• Effectively work in a co-teaching model with the assigned partner, collaborating in and sharing all homeroom teacher responsibilities
• Participate in weekly co-planning with grade-level and other relevant teachers
• Provide afterschool clubs once per week each semester
• Attend and participate in all required staff meetings and other activities deemed necessary by school administration
• Undergo informal observations and formal evaluation by the Head of Primary and/or Primary Assistant Principal
Basic Requirements
• Minimum of two years’ teaching experience
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree and/or certification in elementary/early childhood education
• Experience in a co-teaching model (preferred)
• Experience teaching English Language Learners (preferred)
• International school teaching experience (preferred)
Reporting Relationships
• Reports directly to Head of Primary
