Job Description

This position is a part-time teaching position for English Reading and Writing. Teachers are expected to instruct small groups of students ranging from grades 3 to 12. Teachers should design the syllabus, prepare lesson plans and make the slides for the reading courses according to students' needs and learning goals. They should also develop teaching or training materials, such as handouts, study materials, or quizzes for each class. Previous/current teaching experience of English reading in schools is preferred.

Requirements

    • Native English speaker (U.S.A./Canada/U.K./Australia/New Zealand/Ireland only)
    • Minimum of a master’s degree in English Literature, Education, Writing, Philosophy, Mathematics and related majors.
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching or tutoring English.
    • Experience in tutoring students remotely is preferred.
    • Ability to use technology to interact with students and provide feedback on their homework.
    • TESL/TEFL/TESOL/CELTA certificate, teaching certificate or equivalent.
    • A minimum of 2 hours of variable working time per week (weekends preferred).
    • Energetic, dynamic, motivational and demonstrate content expertise in the core academic subject(s) taught.
    • IB/A-level/AP/IGCSE teaching experience is preferred.

Payment

    • Hourly pay: at least $34 base + preparation fee + extra booking bonus per student (ranging from $42/hr to $58/hr).
    • Pay rate varies from level to level and from class to class.
    • Classwork completed by the end of the month is calculated for the next pay date. Payment is submitted on a business day between the 10th and the 15th of the calendar month.
    • Teachers can be paid through PayPal (preferred) or online bank transfer. Shiliu assumes the transfer fee charged by the remitting bank, and teachers assume the handling fees charged by the receiving bank.
    • Shiliu instructors are hired as independent contractors. No taxes will be deducted from payments. It is the responsibility of the instructor to file taxes in accordance with their individual tax jurisdictions as well as state and federal laws.
