Job Title: Full-Time English Instructor

Job Description: Teaching English to adults (university students and working professionals). Full-time instructors will teach at least 19 hours per week. Teachers may be required to teach overtime hours depending on the number of classes.

We are Hankuk University of Foreign Studies’ primary language training center. Our educational philosophy focuses on student output and maximizes speaking time in class, though our curriculum is comprehensive and includes listening, writing, and multimedia subjects. The curriculum and class structure has a very practical focus.

The school is very teacher-centric and offers advancement and leadership opportunities to those that are interested. This includes such things as curriculum & course development, leading projects, and research opportunities, to name a few.

In addition, there are business classes that may become available throughout the semester. We often provide courses for major companies in Korea as well as several government agencies. Teaching these classes is entirely optional.

Interview Dates: Late June- Early July 2019. All interviews are conducted in person so you must be in Korea. The interview includes a short mock class.

Period of Contract: August 1, 2019 to July 31, 2020. Applicants must be available to start teaching on August 5, 2019.

Full-time position
-2.26 million won/month base salary. Overtime hours paid at 34,000 won per hour.
-Medical insurance (50%).
-National pension and private pension.
-10 weeks of paid vacation (usually 4 weeks in summer and 6 weeks in winter) and national holidays.

-Housing: A non-shared off-campus apartment for foreign faculty

-Schedule: At our center, we have a daytime program and an evening program so there is the possibility for a split schedule on 1-2 days per week.

Daytime program: 9:30-4:15 (Monday to Friday) – Most 1st year instructors teach about 15-16 class hours per week during the daytime (average 3 hours per day in the daytime program)

Evening program: 7:40-9:30 (Mon-Thurs) – All full-time 1st year instructors are required to teach the evening program. You will teach at most 2 nights per week.

-Native speaker of English
-Bachelor’s Degree; Master’s Degree preferred
-Major in English literature, linguistics, and education preferred
-At least 2 years of experience teaching adults

-Copy of transcript in a sealed envelope
-Recent photo/copy of passport

-Health check (for Canadians, copy of VSS)
(Depending on your current visa status, some of these documents may be waived)
