English Education Center is Seeking A Qualified Native English Instructor


The National Institute for International Education (NIIED) is an organization under the South Korean Ministry of Education. NIIED is seeking a responsible and competent native English speaker to fill the role of Instructor for the English Education Center in Jeju Island.

1. Duties
The EEC Native English Instructor Responsibilities include the following:
- Teaching English to local non-native English speaking residents and children
- Conducting English language skill and teaching method classes for Korean Public School teachers
- Developing English language education materials
- Preparing for and organizing weekly English language classes
- Responding to educational inquiries during office hours, including but not limited to E-mails and phone calls
- Assisting in organization and hosting of public events on behalf of the ECC (Hosting duties include public speaking)
- Performing other responsibilities in coordination with the EEC Education team

2. Employment Period
- March 1st, 2019 through February 29th, 2020
- Working hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break - Working hours are subject to change depending on classes or event schedules
- Occasional paid overtime may be required - Usually associated with training or special events

3. Salary
- Gross salary per year of \39,217,000 (approx. $35,000)
- Additional overtime payment
- Housing allowance per month of \500,000

- Employee is responsible for any additional fees, charges, taxes and/or expenses incurred beyond the \500,000 housing allowance

- Employee is responsible for settling all disputes and/or final bills with the landlord or apartment owner

4. Benefits
- Initial settling-in allowance of \1,300,000 for overseas hires only
- Exit allowance of \1,300,000 paid to all employees after successful completion of a 12 month contract
- The EEC will pay 50% of the National Health Insurance premiums each month provided by the National Institute of International Education
- The EEC will pay 50% of the National Pension premiums each month provided by the National Institute of International Education
- The Employee (Canadian and Irish citizens excluded) may be income tax-exempt for the first two years of employment in Korea - Employees that have taught for more than two years are not eligible for this exemption
- 15 days of paid vacation

5. Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
- Citizen of a country where English is the primary language spoken and able to obtain an E2 visa in Korea
- A master¡¯s degree in English education or relevant education major
- A bachelor¡¯s degree in English education or relevant education major and two years of teaching experience
- A bachelor¡¯s degree and four years of teaching experience
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Experience proofreading and editing official documents
- Strong interpersonal skills
- The ability to effectively and cooperatively work in a team setting
- The flexibility to work in a culturally diverse environment

Preferred Qualifications
- Teaching certificates from an accredited institution
- Experience with and teaching in the Korean K-12 public education system
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.
- Understanding of Korean culture and language

6. Required Documentation
- Downloaded and completed application form from the EEC website ( - Includes Personal Essay, Medical Self-assessment and Consent for Verification
- Copy of passport information page - If applying while living in Korea, please include the visa page of the passport as well as front and back copies of your Alien Registration Card (ARC)
- Proof of teaching experience
- Apostilled Diploma for highest level of education earned
- Sealed or Apostilled Transcripts
- If applicable, a copy of a Teaching Certificate
- If applicable, a copy of a TESOL/TEFL/CELTA Certificate
- Mailed or E-mailed recommendation letters from two separate professional sources - supervisor, principal, professor, employer, etc.

Successful Candidate Submission Requirements
- National criminal background check from country of citizenship
- Official Medical Report (Korean Immigration Service appointed hospital)

7. Application Submission Details
- Deadline: Friday, January 25th, 2019 at 18:00 Korean Standard Time

8. Application Result
- Selected applicants will be notified individually by E-mail on January 29th after 16:00, and an interview will be scheduled

9. Interview Schedule
- In person interview is preferred (If necessary, a Skype interview is possible)
Thursday, January 31st, 2019 beginning at 15:00 at the NIIED headquarters in Bundang, GyeongGi-do
- A teaching demonstration will be required and the topic will be provided before the interview

10. Final Results
- Only successful candidates will be contacted on Friday, February 1st, 2019 after 16:00 via E-mail
