FULL-TIME position teaching adults at Minbyeongchul Speakingworks at Geumjeong Branch, Kyeonggi-do! Less than 30 minutes from Seoul! (updated 9/6)

Posted By: BCM Speakingworks Geumjeong Branch <[email protected]>
Date: Friday, 7 December 2018, at 7:43 p.m.

Speakingworks (formerly known as BCM Language Institutes) is one of the largest adult English education franchises in South Korea, with dozens of locations all over the country.

Visit our website at:

1. Bachelor's degree (any major but English, education or linguistics a plus).
2. Valid employment visa in South Korea or the necessary documentation to obtain one (apostilled university diploma, criminal background check, etc.) Contact us if you are unclear about your eligibility.
3. Native speaker proficiency, capable of speaking Standard English without an overly conspicuous regional accent.

All of the details below are tentative, though typical for our schedules. Schedules and pay negotiable to some extent in all cases.
Applicants already living within a reasonable distance preferred. No relocation allowances will be offered.

1) FULL-TIME position at the franchise headquarters!
Location: Right outside Geumjeong Station (Seoul Subway Lines 1 & 4)
Number of positions: 1 native teacher
Colleagues: 14 foreign teachers (10 native English speakers, 3 Chinese speakers and 1 Japanese speaker); 20 Korean speakers; 6 office and administrative staff
Students: Intermediate to advanced adult students (textbooks provided)
Start: Friday, October 5, 2018 (training to start earlier when possible)
Schedule: Split-shift with weekday mornings from 6:30am to 11:40am; Monday, Wednesday and alternate Friday evenings from 6:25pm to 9:40pm
Class length: Mornings—Three 50-minute lessons (40-minute break after the second lesson) then One 100-minute lesson; Evenings—Two 100-minute lessons.
Number of students per class: 3-12 depending on the class
Compensation: 2.3 to 2.6 million KRW per month, negotiable depending on qualifications and experience—2 or more years of experience teaching in Korea preferred but not required
Housing: Provided though maintenance and utility costs are to be paid by the employee.
Health insurance: Yes
Severance bonus: Yes (one-month's salary per year, paid after the end of the contract)
Airfare: If an initial flight to Korea is required, airfare is paid by the employee but then reimbursed after arrival to Korea.

Important note: The base contracted hours is 120 teaching hours per month. While the above schedule is typical for most of our teachers' contracts, depending on the institute needs the employee may be assigned these other classes instead of the standard schedule:

1. Junior (elementary and/or middle school students)
- 5pm to 5:50pm, 5:55pm to 6:45pm twice a week (for example, Tuesday and Friday)
- 10am to 10:50am, 11:55am to 12:45pm on Saturday.

2. High school (at a Seoul location)
- 10am to 1pm twice a week (compensated at 30,000 won per hour)

3. Business English classes (at other nearby office locations)
- 5pm to 6pm twice a week (compensated at 40,000 won per hour)

In all cases, the overall schedule would be adjusted to balance out the monthly hours. Note that work at other locations is compensated at a higher rate than at the institute and would result in pay slightly higher than the amounts given in the above job specifications. A transportation allowance may be offered to defray excess costs to the employee. Some changes in the schedule may occur.
