Canadian-run hagwon in Dongtan, 2.1M+ (Negotiable) to start mid-May to late-May

Posted By: Benjamin English Club <>
Date: Friday, 14 April 2017, at 1:43 p.m.

Hello. My name is Benjamin Lassmann. I'm the actual, flesh-and-blood owner of Benjamin English Club, a hagwon in Dongtan. We are a sensible, no-nonsense little school with a focus on real English, on environment before "system," and on western-sensitive management. We are looking for a quality teacher, and a quality person, to fill a position ASAP.

Please check out our homepage. You can learn a little about our philosophy, and might even find a couple pictures of yours truly!

Salary: 2.1M+ (negotiable on experience in Korea)
Daily Hours: max 7/day (most days 5 or 6), no split shift, no Saturdays, starting time around 2:30pm
Weekly Hours: max 30/week
Students: about 6-8/class except for special events
Start: mid-May
Housing: single
Location: Dongtan

Airfare, year-end bonuses, red-day holidays, etc. are provided.

Dongtan is a planned city near Seoul. It has all new buildings, good amenities, and is missing much of the dizzying busy-ness of downtown Seoul. Near your apartment (which is very close to the hagwon) you'll find a fairly large mall (Metapolis) with a theater and nice restaurants, some small mountains good for hiking, and express buses that go straight to downtown Seoul. There are plenty of foreign teachers in Dongtan, as well as decent night-time activities: bars, clubs etc. All are within easy walking distance of your home. You can google Dongtan to learn more.

You will be a replacement teacher. Your first job will be to establish good rapport with the students, and to get to know the materials. As you go through the year, you will contribute to some areas of the hagwon development-- ideas for special classes or projects, and so on.

You will have support from our staff and from me, personally. I'm a teaching director, so I know the students and classes quite well.

-You are strong in English-- good grammar, spelling, and communication skills
-You know what documents you need, have them notarized and in-hand, and have scans available ("arriving any day now" won't do it).
-You have worked in Korea already, with at least one finished contract.
-You have a balanced personality: willing to get down to work, but also able to let go and have fun; willing to entertain, but with a strong enough personality to keep a class in line. Most importantly, you should enjoy making real human connections with the children you teach. Our hagwon motto is "People teaching people," and it is important to us.
-You have a sincere interest in teaching, and in furthering your development as a teacher.
-You are available to work for a full-year contract (the potential for a multi-year relationship will be considered a plus but is not required).

Please send your CV and document scans to the address below. Applications without all document scans will not be considered. Make sure you identify what time zone you're in, as well as what time (in Korea) you are available to take a phone or Skype interview. Make sure also that your picture is recent. We want to see what the students will see-- not how cute you looked in high school. The title of your e-mail should be "NAME for Benjamin English Club, mid-May position."
