Busan University of Foreign Studies, located at Busan, is looking for highly qualified, motivated, and dedicated foreign faculty member to begin in the Spring semester, 2014.

One of the sources of BUFS' academic strength can be found in foreign languages and cutting-edge language education with over 80 foreign faculty members representing 24 different nationalities. We are a private university located in Busan, the largest port city in South Korea.

1) Major/Fields : Linguistics(Language Education), English Education

3. Office of International Affairs
1) Major/Fields : Korean Politics(Korean Politics/Society)

4) Major/Fields : International Politics(International Relations/Cooperation)

-Applicants MUST have a Master's Degree or higher.
-Applicants MUST hold related field degrees above opening position.
-Applicants MUST have more than two years of teaching or research experience at University or College level

*Period of Employment : March 1, 2014 - February 28, 2015 (Renewable)


-Master's or Ph.D. degree holders: 28,808,000 won per annum
-Required teaching 12 hours per week
-Overtime payment will be made if exceed required teaching hours

-A partially furnished UNSHARED apartment or One-room Studio will be provided
-Housing allowance 300,000 won per month.
2) Basic Medical Coverage provided through National Health Insurance
3) Transportation : A successful candidate hired directly from overseas (Overseas hiring) will be offered one way airfare between the point of hiring and Busan or a return airfare from China/Japan to Busan for the purpose of obtaining a Working Visa(E-1).

Busan University of Foreign Studies is inviting qualified scholars in the following areas for tenure track faculty positions for projects supported by Humanities Korea (sponsored by the National Research Foundation of Korea)

1. Outline of Positions

a. Institute for Mediterranean Studies
- Field: Mediterranean Area Studies
- No. of Openings: 1
- Degree required: Ph.D.

2. Notes

a. Applicants for the Institute for Mediterranean Studies must agree to the research agenda, A Study on the Interchange Types of Civilizations in the Mediterranean Area (Please visit the website of the National Research Foundation of Korea or www.ims.or.kr for further details).

3. Qualifications

a. Applicants should fully understand and be committed to fulfilment of BUFS educational vision
and Evangelical Christian philosophy based on its founding principles.
b. Applicants must be eligible for appointment according to private university regulations and are required to hold a doctoral degree in the relevant field.
c. For the past 4 years (Jan. 8, 2010 ~ Jan. 7, 2014), applicants must have more than 3 research publications including academic books, published in either
1) Accredited journals & candidate journals for accreditation with the National Research Foundation of Korea, or
2) International academic journals (exclusive of Ph.D. dissertations).
d. Researchers currently involved in projects for the National Research Foundation of Korea are eligible to apply.
e. If hired, selected applicants residing in other countries and other provinces in Korea are required to move to Busan.
f. Applicants must not be holders of Korean citizenship or Korean nationals.
g. Applicants are required to speak more than one of the following 7 languages fluently; Italian, Turkish, Hebrew, Arabic, Spanish, French, Latin.
h. Preference will be given to those who speak English fluently.
i. Preference will be given to those who also speak Korean.

7. Others

a. Successful applicants will be hired as of March 1, 2014.
b. Applicants being considered for a position will be informed by e-mail (absence of notification indicates that the applicant is not under consideration or ineligible for an offered position).
c. Positions may not be filled if satisfactory candidates are not found.
d. All documents in foreign languages except English should be accompanied by English or Korean translations.
e. An application will be rejected if there are any missing documents.
f. In the event that an applicant has been accepted or hired on the basis of false information given in the application, interview, or falsification of supporting documentation, the acceptance or hiring will be cancelled.
g. Submitted documents will not be returned to the applicants. (However, and upon request, publications
and copies of thesis materials are available for return between March 1 and March 31, 2014.)
