Uchon English Immersion Elementary School in Seoul seeks a qualified 1st or 2nd Grade Teacher and a qualified 4th or 5th Grade Teacher; 4 new Kinder positions too!

We have had tremendous response to our growth again this year and wish to thank all applicants thus far. We are winding down our in-country search in the Elementary school and expanding our search for additional Kinder/PreK teachers
Uchon Kindergarten/PreK is adding 4 new sections for 2010 as we look for creative and energetic recent graduates and outgoing teachers of any English speaking nationality to become part of our growth in classes for students from ages 5-7. Our Kinder/PreK focus is similar to the Elementary School in that children receive instruction from both a Korean and a Foreign teacher
We are continuing to accept resumes/CVs from qualified applicants in Korea/Asia and are turning our search to qualified TEFL/TESOL and Elementary/Middle School endorsed Canadian or US applicants for the Elementary School and now Kindergarten/PreK.
Located in North Central Seoul on Line 4 of the subway system at stop #419 between HyeWa and Sung Shin, Uchon is a truly unique and Organic opportunity growing to 27 Foreign Teachers in the two programs for 2010.
Classes begin in both programs on March 1, 2010 and new teacher orientation will take place the week prior or on Saturdays before the start of the new school year.
Uchon Elementary and Kindergarten/PreK are special opportunities for language educators to be involved in an organic situation that allows for unique professional growth and experience.
In the Elementary, first year salary range is between 2.2 and 2.5 Million Won per month, based upon certifications and education levels and a salary schedule for each year to reflect each year of service to the school; Contracts of 1 or 2 years are available to provide job security; about 9 weeks of paid vacation and all Korean Holidays; no OT classes, The work day is 8:20-4:35; Classes are from 8:50-3:30 M-T-Th-F, 8:50-1:30 on Wed; an average of 2 preps/planning periods each day; students go to Specialist classes.
"Content" classes reinforce language skills as all teachers are English Language specialists first teaching Phonics during Science, writing during Social Studies, limited multiple choice assessment, verbal interaction, etc.
In the Kindergarten/PreK, the salary is 2.4 million Won per month; 1 month of paid vacation and all Korean National Holidays, no OT classes, work day is 8:20-5:00; Classes are from 9:45-2:00 Tuesday and Thursday; 9:45-3:00 M-W-F.
Kindergarten classes are creative Whole Language based. with emphasis on participation, demonstration via music, song, drama, art, science, and book classes in Phonics, reading skills, beginning writing, and Alphabet. Creative teachers who expand the daily experiences of the students are essential and a "must". Kinder/PreK seeks Teachers who will make learning fun and active.
Both Programs require teachers with flexibility, patience, energy, Cultural awareness, professionalism in the work-place, awareness of custodial care responsibilities and those duties for students, no medical limitations, and above all else: a love of nurturing early learners in EFL.
Actual structured English teaching time in the Kindergarten is 120 minutes per day, and 3 after-school classes per week. When not teaching English teachers support the Korean teacher and vice-versa.
In the Elementary Immersion (IP) teachers are co-homeroom teachers with their Korean partner teacher. Each homeroom class has 24-28 students. The class is divided in into an "A" and "B" group with 12-14 students in each group. When "A" group is receiving Korean curriculum, "B" group is with Foreign Teacher receiving their English curriculum. Each day teachers exchange groups. Content classes are: Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, and Math.
Employees in both Programs are provided:
A bonus of one month salary at the end of the contract
National Health Insurance split 50/50 with the school.
A private, studio apartment near the school with an additional 100,000 Won toward utilities each month or a 600,000 Won per month housing allowance
750,000 Won travel stipend in the first year
Relocation allowance for new employees
Airport pick-up and assistance if moving into Uchon Housing
Assistance in Quality of Life issues related to living in a foreign country
Sick Days with a value added buyback opportunity
Compassionate Leave for family emergenciesMonthly payroll deductions are for taxes, insurance, and a monthly pension contribution (which is matched by the school).
There are 2-4 School functions each year that may be on Saturdays; one week of Parent Teacher Conferences that may be after 5pm each term, 4-6 staff dinners.
Additional details for both programs:
Less than 30 instructional blocks (with class periods of 40 minutes) per week.
Students go to Specialist teachers for music, art, computer, Bible, violin, PE, etc.
No weekends, overtime, or evening teaching requirements

Uchon will complete the hiring in November. All positions begin March 1, 2010. New teachers should arrive 5 days prior to the start of school for Orientation.

For Elementary teachers in order to receive the E2 work VISA: a background check must be completed from a US State (not Local) Police Department.
For Canadians an RCMP check including Vulnerable Sector Screening.
US applicants must have the background check Apostilled by the State Department Secretary of State Office
