The college is located about 3km west of the Shinchon/Yonsei university area.
We are recruiting two additional faculty members for the 2010 academic year; start is March 1, 2010.Deadline: November 18, 2009
INTRO
This is a professional and responsible, full-time position teaching full credit, conversation classes to non-English majors. The successful applicant will demonstrate a high level of educational professionalism and personal sincerity. We are looking for an individual who is not only competent, but also enthusiastic, creative, reliable, dedicated and cooperative.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Native English speaker. As well as passport, proof may be required of birth and education in an English speaking country
Academic qualifications (in order of preference):
1. Masters in education, TESOL, applied linguistics or related field
2. Masters in anything else
3. Bachelor¡¯s degree in English along with substantial experience teaching at the university level.
Previous teaching experience at the university level is highly desirable.
Only applicants currently residing in Korea will be considered.JOB DESCRIPTION:
The contract period is from March 1, 2010 to February 28, 2011. The instructor will need to be at the college at least one week prior to the start of the semester.
The primary responsibility of this position is to teach full credit classes to non-English majors in the subjects of conversation, composition, grammar, pronunciation and listening comprehension, and secondly to teach freshman conversation classes in the General English Program.The minimum teaching load during each 16-week semester is 12 hours per week. The instructor may be required to teach, at overtime pay, further class hours per week during each semester. The total working hours, including office hours, normally do not exceed 28 hours per week during semesters.
Spring and fall semesters are each 16 weeks long and classes are offered Monday through Friday. The instructor¡¯s classes are scheduled as efficiently as possible, over four days a week. We have both daytime and evening classes.
In addition to the eight-month academic calendar, the instructor may be required to teach additional classes in various programs during the summer and/or winter vacations sessions, if needed. These are paid at overtime rates. When he or she are asked to teach, they have to.
Other responsibilities include
Maintain regular office hours, four days per week.
All class-related work such as class preparation, assessing assignments, student counseling, extensive interviewing schedules in the mid and final exam periods, administer other tests, assign and record grades, maintain academic records, and assist with placement testing.
Some limited administrative work, submission of syllabuses, occasional editing of papers/documents, developing and standardizing tests, and overall administration of class programs.
Take part in faculty meetings, assist with ongoing curriculum and program development as assigned by the department head, participate in faculty projects or workshops, and maintain professional development. These functions have not usually involved a lot of time.PAY
Salary: 2,000,000 won per month + any overtime payment
Monthly housing allowance of 300,000 won
Paid vacation: 4 months (divided between summer and winter), although extra teaching at extra pay may be required by the instructor during these vacations.
The instructor is paid separately for additional classes over 12 hours/wk and for all vacation teaching.
Taxes, pension contribution and health insurance will be deducted in accordance with Korean law. The instructor¡¯s contribution to the health insurance scheme is likely to be about 60,000 won per month and to the national pension fund about 120,000 won per month. The latter is fully refundable upon completion of the contract. The college also contributes toward both the health insurance and pension schemes.
Contracts are for one year and may be renewed at the discretion of the college.APPLICATION

Copies of transcripts may be submitted for hiring consideration. However, official sealed transcripts mailed directly to Myongji from the university of graduation will be required for final approval.
Interested applicants may be required to conduct a 10-minute demonstration lesson of a conversation class for college students at the time of the interview.
