Position 1/ Qualifications / Requirements:
Teaching qualification such as PGCE or equivalent preferred
CELTA or equivalent recognized qualification in teaching English
Minimum of three years experience in a similar role in a reputable international school.
ESL experience in an English speaking country such as the UK, US, Canada or Australia would be an advantage.
Some knowledge of Chinese preferred as this will assist teaching younger students.
Suitable character for working with younger students, from kindergarten to age 14.
Must be able to demonstrate the ability to create appropriate teaching materials to motivate and guide learners across the required age-range.
A satisfactory level of spoken English, without an accent which will compromise student understanding.

2/ Key Responsibilities:

To work in partnership with the Primary and Middle school domestic English teachers to create a curriculum which enables all learners towards the school’s goal of full bilingualism for every child.

Within this programme to support the resources, materials and topics being used by the Primary and Middle school teachers.

Within this programme to identify or create additional learning materials which are appropriate to the age range. These materials should be fun and engaging, but at the same time, contribute to improvements in all 4 aspects of English.

To understand the language development of Primary and Middle school students and provide them with appropriate assessment and feedback to help them to improve.

To teach English in conformity with the Chinese National Curriculum for this age group.

To teach English in a manner which respects both Chinese culture in general and the educational philosophies of Xinxedao in particular.

To avoid on all occasions topics which are incompatible with Chinese law and culture – eg political and religious topics.
To contribute to the wider academic and social development of students in the Primary and Middle sections of the school by contributing to school events and activities eg – cross-curricular days.

To support the marketing strategies of the school by being an appropriate presence at Open Days and other marketing events.

To support the Summer and Winter camp activities of the school by acting as an English teacher and/or tutor as required.

To dress appropriately and professionally at all times.

To follow all of the child protection and health and safety procedures of the school.

3/The Package
● The terms and conditions are negotiable. As an employer we recognize that we need flexibility to attract and retain good quality applicants.
● The starter salary for a qualified teacher is 20,000-25,000 yuan per month. This a very high salary by average Chinese standards.
● There is free accommodation if the teacher accepts a dormitory room (furnished) on the Geely University campus.
● There is free catering if the teacher accepts three meals per day in the school canteen. This includes weekends.
● Visa expenses are met.
● Flight expenses are met at the start and end of contract, subject to satisfactory discharge of duties, and up to a ceiling of 800 pounds.
● Regular training and professional development sessions from a UK qualified Headteacher
● Support for professional development, including meeting reasonable costs of courses
● Language support from bilingual staff to settle and travel in China.

Position 2: We are currently searching for a US High School Program Administrator/ Head Teacher who will be responsible for coordinating between our school in Guangdong, China with our US partner school in California to ensure that our US High School Program goals are being met and that our program makes progress in responsibly offering an Advanced Placement program, subjects under Californian high school curriculum and a rigorous English language program.

We seek accomplished candidates who will work collaboratively with fellow administrators from our US partner, confer with faculty, parents, and students on academic matters, and ensure the implementation of our program effectively. The ideal candidate should have the experience and professional qualifications necessary to support teamwork, set high standards, and implement a long term strategy for our program.
The US High School Program Administrator/ Head Teacher is responsible for the following:

• Teach effectively and in keeping with American best educational practices, no more than 20 contact hours per week in the classroom.
• Play a cooperative role between Chinese and the US schools to insure a consistent educational plan, which adheres to the school’s philosophy. Proactively build buy-in from campus faculty, staff and leadership for American high school initiatives.
• Be proactive in scheduling and leading weekly standing meetings with campus leadership and separately with our US partner’s leadership.
• As a teaching leader, will be expected to teach model classes and work with students on a regular basis.
• Ensure the recruitment, retention, and enhancement of quality teachers through ongoing faculty development and implementation of new ideas, practices, and procedures.
• Supervise the hiring process of teachers.
• Work with the admissions personnel of Chinese schools for student recruitment.
• Partner with our US partner’s counseling staff and master teachers.
• Encourage strong collegiality between staff and administration to assure innovative ideas and practices.
• Make recommendations about areas of improvements in curriculum and instruction and gather data on outcomes.
• Identify and respond to faculty, parent, student and administrator needs in a timely manner and implement a plan for a positive solution.
• Lead efforts to develop and support American-style student programming (including events, clubs, teams, competitions, etc.)
• Maintain long range goals and plans with the assistance of faculty and administration.
Required qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years of leadership experience, and additional teaching experience at the high school level. A focus on language instruction is a major plus.
• Strong communication skills in English (both verbal and writing skills); highly articulate and effective public speaker. Knowledge of Chinese is highly desired.
• Experience with analyzing student learning outcomes, varying assessment, and international education programs.
• Demonstrated leadership skills including proficiency in communication and organization, effective decision making, success working with diverse constituencies, and development of constructive interpersonal relations
• Experience in American and international schools is a plus.
• Residency in China at the location of the Chinese school and ability to travel in the country is a must. Some travel to the USA may also be necessary.
• Knowledge of China, of its business and educational culture, and of differences between US and Chinese educational systems.
• Experience with Advanced Placement (AP) is a plus, as is experience preparing students for the college admissions process.
• Diplomacy skills, with a track record of gaining consensus.
• Results-oriented with the patience necessary to negotiate between different cultures.
