Your role

Based at one of our British Council offices in Beijing or Chongqing, you’ll travel to a variety of locations across China to assess candidates in their use of English. This can involve long-distance journeys and extended stays away from your base, so we’ll give you plenty of help with travel arrangements, hotel bookings and support if you get delayed. You’ll also be able to plan your own downtime, so you can explore China around each assignment.

What we offer

We aim to be a supportive employer, which is why we are offering a unique contract that involves working at least six days a month, with extensive opportunities to boost your income by working additional days each month. This flexible approach puts you in control, enabling you to decide when to add to your earnings and when to feed your sense of adventure - to this end, we also offer learning support so that you can learn Chinese. We also provide opportunities for career progression.

ABOUT THE BRITISH COUNCIL

The British Council is the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities. We create friendly knowledge and understanding between the people of the UK and other countries. We do this by making a positive contribution to the UK and the countries we work with – changing lives by creating opportunities, building connections and engendering trust.

We work with over 100 countries across the world in the fields of arts and culture, English language, education and civil society. Last year we reached over 75 million people directly and 758 million people overall including online, broadcasts and publications. Founded in 1934, we are a UK charity governed by Royal Charter and a UK public body.

Valuing diversity is essential to the British Council’s work. We aim to abide by and promote equality legislation by following both the letter and the spirit of it to try and avoid unjustified discrimination, recognising discrimination as a barrier to equality of opportunity, inclusion and human rights.

All staff worldwide are required to ensure their behaviour is consistent with our policies.

The British Council is a full member of Keeping Children Safe (KCS) and has achieved level 1 child safe certification. We believe that all children have the right to be protected from all forms of abuse as set out in article 19, UNCRC, 1989 and that every child matters - everywhere in the world. In line with the British Council's Child Protection policy, any appointment is contingent on thorough checks including criminal record checks, in line with legal requirements.

KINDLY TAKE NOTE
While various measures have been put in place by the government to help curb pollution in China, there are still potential health issues associated with the poorer air quality. The British Council does its utmost to provide a working environment that minimises employees’ exposure to pollutants, however, anyone wishing to work in the cities of Beijing or Chongqing should be aware of the situation.
