Science, Primary Years English, Early Years English, Literature and Writing Teachers Needed in Shanghai, China

1. Science Teacher

Responsibilities:

• Plan and teach lessons for Year 6 and Year 7 according to the pre-assigned Scientific Explorations curriculum, an integrated approach to science education.
• Participate in the design and development of additional science courses for K-12.
• Lead small-group tutorials in a variety of science subjects.
• Teachers will be responsible for planning and delivering lessons five days a week.
• Create a joyful, efficient, learning-focused classroom experience for students that leads to exemplary student growth -- both in academic achievement and in critical thinking.
• Collaborate with and support colleagues in the classroom and in weekly professional development opportunities.
• Mark student essays with detailed and thoughtful remarks.
• Communicate with students’ parents about students’ performance.
• Potentially participate in any one of the company’s Global Learning courses with a scientific focus, including Ecological Explorations, Fire & Ice and Titans of Tech.

Requirements:

• Native English speaker
• Bachelor’s Degree is Required,
• Education Degree is preferred with a specialization in science
• Master’s in education or Master in Subject highly preferred
• Teaching certificate
• Experience working with and teaching G6-12 students
• Highly energetic, creative, reliable individuals;
• Love for children and for a career in English education
• Fri-Sunday and two additional days (Friday PM, Saturday, and Sunday required)

2. Primary Years English Teacher

Responsibilities:
• Teach English Literature reading and writing to K-5 children.
• Lessons may include pre-developed courses, self-developed courses, and private tutorials.
• Provide detailed marking and feedback on student work.
• Teachers will be responsible for planning and delivering lessons five days a week.
• Create a joyful, efficient, learning-focused classroom experience for students that leads to exemplary student growth -- both in academic achievement and in critical thinking.
• Collaborate with and support colleagues in the classroom and in weekly professional development opportunities.
• Communicate with students’ parents about students’ performance.

Requirements:
• Native English speaker
• Bachelor’s Degree is required, and Education major is preferred.
• Master’s in education or Master in subject highly preferred
• Teaching certificate
• Experience working with and teaching primary school students
• Highly energetic, creative, reliable individuals;
• Love for children and for a career in English education
• A willingness to be flexible with and interested in a wide range of potential teaching opporutnities beyond in-person lessons, including Online classes and Global Learning study tours.
• A commitment to a Friday-Sunday and two additional days (two consecutive days for a weekend) schedule

3. Early Years English Teacher

Responsibilities:
• Teach English reading and writing to pre-K children at early year.
• Lessons may include pre-developed courses, self-developed courses, and private tutorials.
• Teachers will be responsible for planning and delivering lessons five days a week.
• Create a joyful, efficient, learning-focused classroom experience for students that leads to exemplary student growth -- both in academic achievement and in critical thinking.
• Collaborate with and support colleagues in the classroom and in weekly professional development opportunities.
• Communicate with students’ parents about students’ performance.

Requirements:
• Native English speaker
• Bachelor’s Degree is required
• Education Degree is preferred with pre-K specialization

4. Literature and Writing Teacher

Teachers with at least two years of primary, middle school, or high school teaching experience are needed to teach an advanced literature and writing program that's based on the most distinguished classic and contemporary chapter books, early children's novels, and young adult novels in English. Learning focuses are reading, vocabulary, comprehension, literary analysis, and oral presentation. The writing portion of the course includes stories and essays. Weekly sessions are typically 3 hours long. Each weekend class will have a maximum of 8 or 9 students, while online classes will have a maximum of 5 students. The ideal teaching candidates will have distinguished academic and work records, and will be highly professional in personal presentation, communication skills, and work ethic.

Required Education and Work Experience
1. A four-year university degree from a prestigious/top ranked university (Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, or the United States); AND some full-time teaching experience.
OR
2. A four-year university degree; AND a state/government issued teaching license/credential which qualifies an individual to teach at regular schools (Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, or the United States); AND two years of full-time teaching experience (at an established international school or at a school in the teacher's home country).

Required Computer Skills
1. The teacher will possess proficient skills in Microsoft Word in order to generate and/or to fill-out lesson plan templates successfully.
2. The teacher will possess basic Excel skills in order to successfully use basic Excel functions such as opening Excel files or entering and saving information on spreadsheets.
3. The teacher will possess proficient skills on the use of an Apple iPad.
4. The teacher will possess proficient skills, or will be able and willing to independently learn, how to use video conferencing software.
5. The teacher will possess proficient skills, or will be able and willing to independently learn, how to use an online learning management system in order to deliver the content of our online lessons, as well as to download and upload students’ assignments.
6. The teacher will possess proficient skills, or will be able and willing to independently learn, how to use Microsoft SharePoint in order to view, upload, and download documents.

Partial List of Teaching Duties and Other Responsibilities
1. The teacher will be able to teach our challenging and ambitious curriculum which is different and more rigorous than commonly used state, national, and international curriculums such as IB.
2. The teacher will submit completed lesson plans to the head teacher and/or the department head and/or the principal by set due dates.
3. The teacher will submit students’ writing portfolios and/or exemplary essays and stories as requested by the head teacher and/or the department head and/or the principal.
4. The teacher will be highly organized, patient, flexible, and able to work independently.
5. The teacher will be a proponent of the philosophy that it is possible to teach non-native English speakers/bi-lingual students using native level materials, and that non-native speakers can be guided to performance at levels far beyond what are considered standard grade level expectations. Ideally, a track record in this area will prove this commitment.
6. The teacher will have a passion for learning and the teacher will be willing and able to instill this passion in students.
7. The teacher will make careful and detailed corrections, and will provide written and timely feedback, on all story and essay writing assignments. (within 1 week)
8. The teacher will provide parents with his WeChat contact info OR email address and he will answer the occasional questions, which parents may have, after teaching hours. In addition, the teacher will proactively contact parents in order to inform them of their children’s progress.
9. The teacher will reply to WeChat or email messages from parents within 72-hours generally, but as soon as possible when involving time sensitive assignment/homework related questions.
10. The teacher will be punctual and reliable.
11. The teacher will schedule nonemergency doctor’s appointments outside of teaching hours.
12. The teacher will give advance notice, of at least 24 hours, to the immediate supervisor when an unavoidable absence from teaching duties is required.
13. The teacher will demonstrate outstanding classroom management skills.
14. The teacher will ensure that the students are safe at all times.
15. The teacher will lead a clean and healthy lifestyle that will enable her/him to function at high levels at all times.
16. Since we don't have staff meetings, the teacher will accept being monitored in person and/or directed electronically (usually via email and/or WeChat). The teacher will reply to electronic messages from supervisors within 72 hours.
17. The teacher will attend meetings with supervisors, as needed, for the purpose of coaching and/or for periodic performance reviews.
18. The teacher will be a nonsmoker.
19. The teacher will wear professional attire during teaching/tutoring sessions, and at all times when working at our school, whether offline or online.
