10,000 RMB/m + Apt. Primary & Middle School ESL Teaching Position in Guangzhou, China
Posted By: Aipusen English Training Institute <aipusen@yahoo.ca>
Date: Tuesday, 13 October 2009, at 7:17 a.m.
Currently we are looking for several kindergarten, primary and middle school ESL Teachers for the current 2009/10 school term commencing and the upcoming 2010 semester commencing in late February 2010. Due to new government regulations we require that all our teachers are native English speakers and hold a degree and a TEFL/TESOL certificate or 2 years formal teaching experience. Unfortunately if you do not fit these requirements we cannot process your application.
Aipusen currently employs 20 foreign teachers in our central office in Guangzhou. All information about our company and our teaching programs can be found on our website at:
Below is a brief description of what we are all about and what we offer.
What we do:
We work within the local kindergarten, primary and middle school system in the city of Guangzhou. Currently we work with 8 different primary schools, 3 different kindergartens and 2 middle schools. We incorporate our ESL programs into the curriculum of these schools, so as a teacher with us you will get a chance to work in the local school system and teach a variety of different levels from kindergarten through grade 9. In addition, we have several of our own training centers where students will come to study our specialized ESL programs. We also have a large head office where all our teaching resources and office staff are located. The head office is where all our curriculum development is done as well as a place where teachers come to do lesson planning, meet with other teachers, surf the internet etc. The office is open to our teachers all the time and is equipped with all the teaching materials and resources needed (i.e. computers, internet, photocopying machines, laminating machines, etc.) to prepare your lessons. Teachers also meet at our head office weekly to discuss how their classes are progressing, to share ideas with other teachers and to keep up to date with company events and outings.
What we teach:
Our curriculum is fun and exciting; it utilizes the TPR (total physical response) approach to teaching. We use a lot of songs and games in our classes and really promote the idea that kids learn by having fun. Our curriculum is very structured and easy to teach. Most of our students are given workbooks, activity books and cassette tapes. Teachers are given teachers books for each unit as well as picture cards. We also have a series of master lesson plans written for all our units from kindergarten through grade 6, which provides a good framework for our teachers to work from. There is however, a lot of room for creativity in our curriculum so although the content is set, how you present it as a teacher is completely up to you. All our teachers are also assigned a bilingual teaching assistant that will work with you in all your classes. They are great at helping control the classes while you teach as well as helping out with any translation that you might need during class when introducing new vocabulary.
What an average workweek consists of:
Teachers will work 5 days a week with 2 consecutive days off. Schedules run Mon-Fri. Teachers generally teach an average of 4-7 classes a day. Classes range in size and length anywhere from 10-30 students (with most classes being around 20-25 students) to 30-90min (most classes are 40 min in length). Teachers will also generally work at 1 or 2 different schools and/or training centers throughout the week and teach a variety of different levels from kindergarten up through middle school. Your schedule will be the same every week so you will start with a set schedule and students and you should finish the year with these same students. This way you can develop a good rapport with your students and schools. With teachers who work at several schools there is a travel component involved. Schedules are designed to allow ample time for teachers to have lunch breaks and travel between schools. Some schools that are further away from the downtown area of the city, teachers are provided with a private company car that drives them to and from the school. For the majority of our schools that are located in the center of the city, the teachers are responsible for getting to their schools. A Chinese bilingual teaching assistant is provided for each teacher who will initially show all the teachers how to get to their schools and how to navigate the city of Guangzhou as well as the office staff will always assist to make sure the teachers know where their schools are.
What we offer:
The starting monthly salary we offer for a standard ESL teaching positions in Guangzhou are 10,000 RMB/month plus fully furnished accommodations. The also includes up to a 10,000 RMB bonus on completion of a one-year contract (designed to cover your roundtrip airfare to your native home). All teachers are provided with fully furnished western style 2 bedroom shared apartments with one other teacher which includes: TV, AC in the bedrooms, western style toilet, gas stove and water heater, refrigerator, microwave, couches, living room, dining room, and bedroom furniture, washing machine). Teacher¡¦s apartments are paid for by the company but utilities are paid for by the teachers. Teachers are required to work 5-days a week to a maximum of 25 in-class teaching hours per week. All national holidays will be honored with pay, including a 2-3 week Chinese New Year or summer holiday (one-week of which is paid). Teachers are also given 5 paid sick days over the course of the school year and teachers are eligible for minor medical re-imbursement plan. All positions will run a full school year.
Why Aipusen is a fun and unique company to work for:
Unlike most other teaching companies in China one of our top priorities is making sure our teachers have a good work environment. We have a large foreign management staff, which consists of a foreign Director and 2 foreign Teacher Managers. The foreign management system is there to help the foreign teachers with any problems or concerns they may have with their work, the job, or their daily life in China, as well as to train the foreign staff how to be the best teachers they can be. We also provide a very structured and efficient curriculum with a plethora of teaching materials that are given to each teacher. At Aipusen we also train our teachers to be top-notch child ESL specialists, so at the least from your experience with Aipusen, you will learn to be a real teacher and you will leave here with loads of confidence in your teaching abilities.
Another big benefit of working for Aipusen is that although we have a large staff of foreign teachers we function like one big family. We have a social events committee, who organize lots of fun company field trips and events and teacher parties. We provide Chinese lessons and we have several sports clubs and events we encourage our teachers to take part in. In short we encourage out teachers to have fun outside of work as well as during work.
What we ask in return is for our teachers to work hard and with a positive and professional attitude and be flexible with their work schedule. How to apply:
After browsing our website and reading this email, if you think you might be interested, please email me a cover letter, your resume, a current photo and 2 formal reference letters or contacts to the following address:
