TASIS England Summer Program – EAL Teachers

TASIS England Summer Programs are widely recognized not only for the quality and strength of our academic, sports, and travel programs, but also as a caring and structured community, where young people from over forty countries learn to live together and transcend national and cultural boundaries. Every summer, we welcome students from every corner of the globe as they arrive on our 46 acre campus near London to experience an unforgettable summer in England.

We are currently seeking qualified and experienced EAL Teachers to successfully deliver the TASIS English Language Program which is offered in two 3-week sessions from 24 th June to 3 rd August 2019 and includes students who have been tested and placed in the appropriate level upon arrival.

Students are taught 3 hours of EAL daily. Classwork is not the exclusive component of their immersion in English, but is complemented by campus and dormitory social life, new friendships, sports, travel and scheduled study. The EAL teacher must have a university degree, a certificate in CELTA, and experience in the teaching of under 18s with various native language backgrounds.

Teaching such level-appropriate students requires qualified faculty who are appropriate language model and possess flexibility and astuteness in creating or modifying the material at hand to cover particular needs of their specific student group. Teachers should plan for and deliver lessons with a 3-week syllabus perspective that provides balanced coverage of all language skills. Discussions, group and pair work, oral presentations, listening exercises, songs, dialogues, role-play, communication games, dictation, daily journals, and structured writing assignments are some of the means to an end, namely increased fluency in English. Teachers are expected to monitor students’ progress through frequent tests which are followed by meticulous record-keeping and classroom feedback. They are also expected to substantiate their assessment of students based on normative educational criteria.

Faculty orientation, faculty meetings, weekly lesson plans, two classroom observations (a brief informal one followed by a formal, hour-long one), pastoral care, mid-term and end-of-term assessment and personalized student reports: these constitute a non-exhaustive list of what TASIS expects of enthusiastic, motivated teachers for a diverse and equally motivated EAL student body. We offer excellent rates of pay and the opportunity to stay in fully furnished accommodation with all associated meals and expenses covered in return for participation in our residential program. Our beautiful campus is located in the charming village of Thorpe in Surrey close to Heathrow Airport and less than an hour by train to London.

If you are interested in pursuing this exciting opportunity please contact Sia Georgaklis, Director, TASIS England Summer Program on [email protected]
