Position: ESL Coordinator (CEA Volunteer) in Guayaquil, Ecuador

Position: ESL Coordinator (CEA Volunteer)
Location: Guayaquil, Ecuador
Paid/Volunteer: Volunteer (with stipend)
Hours per week (approximately): 40
Reports to: Education Manager

Requirements:
Have a certificate or degree to teach ESL, or a related field
Capacity to lead others in an innovative way
Experience working with youth
Experience developing lesson plans
Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of the Starfish Foundation.
Excellent communication and cross-cultural skills.
Ability to coordinate a team independently and solve problems with minimal supervision
Exhibit creativity and bring positive energy and enthusiasm
Be flexible and patient with a different culture and way of life
Demonstrate respect and appreciation for the people you are working with
Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Able to work in a difficult and low-resource environment
Work as part of a team and resolve problems together with the team
Be committed to educating both youth and adults
Intermediate level of Spanish, advanced preferred
English - Native or Advanced

Responsibilities:
Participate in community events as necessary
Contribute innovative ideas to the Foundation’s programs
Develop new programs or implement strategies that are unique to the needs of the Starfish Foundation
Delegate responsibilities and tasks to the educators and volunteers as necessary, using the platform “Trello”
Assign, perform, correct, approve, and deliver tasks independently without intervention from the director
Support the director and coordinators with assignments as necessary
Communicate regularly with the administrator (or in their absence, with the director) any doubts, worries, ideas etc. of other educators
Work with the educators to assure that all program needs are met according to the needs specified in our strategic plan, as well as those expressed by employees, students, and the Starfish community
Evaluate the educators English levels and motivations for learning English to determine the educator’s goals for English class
Evaluate the students’ English levels and motivations for learning English to determine the students’ goals for English class
Develop a curriculum for English (for a year) for educators and for the students
Develop and execute lesson plans for English class with the educators and students
Observe and give feedback to the educators in their teaching, including their objectives, dynamic activities, end-of-class assessments, and how to grade, etc.
Regular communication with the educators and Foundation administrators
Record your hours worked on the attendance sheet
Be a guide, mentor, and good example for the youth of the Foundation, inside and outside of work.
Train and orient the new volunteers for the following year (last two weeks of your volunteer year)
