Contract Duration: 12 months
Working Hours: Full time, 40 hours a week (20-25 hours of teaching)

The VSB-TUO is the first European university to open a branch campus in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. At the Erbil campus, all courses and programmes are delivered in the English language. The university is becoming a centre of excellence and the Language and Academic Development Institute is looking for individuals who will maintain our high standard of teaching.
As an English language lecturer at VSB-Erbil Campus, you will be an outstanding academic with a high standard of work ethics and professionalism, and demonstrate the highest standards of delivery. Lecturers will be teaching non-native speakers the English language and its fundamentals, speaking, listening, reading and writing. Lecturers will also assist in developing students’ abilities to write essays, deliver presentations and engage in discussions.
You will use a range of course books and materials, plus e-learning materials, to teach students and encourage students to enhance their English language capabilities.
English instructors will,
plan and organize curriculum and policy objectives;
teach General English, EAP/IELTS/TOEFL
assist in the design of English courses, test and related materials
provide outstanding teaching to create a vibrant and distinctive culture for learning for students
plan, prepare and deliver lessons to a range of classes at different levels, ensuring that the programme meets individual learner needs
ensure all students are able to thrive and engage in both academic and vocational learning to achieve above and beyond their highest potential
prepare and set tests, exercises and examination papers
mark written and oral work and provide appropriate feedback to students
create, write and produce new materials, including audio and visual resources
undertake assessment of students and when requested by university procedures
attend and contribute to training sessions
track student progress
present information to colleagues
undertake administrative tasks, such as keeping student registers and attendance records
prepare students for internationally recognised examinations
prepare information for inspection visits and other quality assurance exercises
You will need to,
ensure a high quality of teaching and learning
ensure a safe, secure and healthy environment for students
understand national and international standards within the subject area and ensure these are followed
use effective target setting systems for all students
identify effective intervention and mentoring strategies for students
follow the visions and values of VSB-Erbil Campus
maintain discipline in accordance with procedures and encourage good practice with regard to punctuality, behaviour, standards of work and independent learning
Any other duties as appropriate with the level of this post and as directed by the Head of the Language and Academic Development Institute.
Communication skills are vital to the role and you must be able to teach and speak clearly to students, colleagues and administration officials
The students you work with will have different backgrounds and abilities. Patience is required when dealing with students.
You will have to explain new ideas and unfamiliar concepts with authority and in a clear and concise way so that students are able to understand. You must work to keep students’ attention.
Instructors write progress reports and publish research. Writing skills are critical.
Instructors will have to use their own methods and approach of teaching and ways to involve students into their lessons. Instructors may have to use different learning techniques to get the most out of their students
Engaging in good working relationships with students and colleagues is essential.
Academic qualification at graduate or equivalent level or relevant professional qualification
Relevant teaching experience.
An understanding of EAP/IELTS/TOEFL and the needs and requirements of international students.
Experience with academic assessment and standards and with quality assurance procedures
Excellent literacy and IT skills
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Enthusiasm, optimism, confidence and energy
Specific experience of education in English speaking countries.
An understanding and appreciation of private sector education
Starting salary will depend on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
