Seeking Experienced Teachers To Mentor And Teach Afghan And Nepalese Women And Girls Via Skype

Posted By: The Alliance for International Women’s Rights (AIWR) <[email protected]>
Date: Saturday, 31 March 2018, at 9:59 p.m.

The Alliance for International Women’s Rights (AIWR) is seeking certified and experienced ESL/EFL teachers who are willing to serve as volunteer long-distance mentors and English language tutors for young women in Afghanistan.

AIWR is a small volunteer-run nonprofit organization with a mission of supporting women leaders and future women leaders in developing countries, with a current focus on Afghanistan and Nepal. Our efforts include providing the high-quality mentoring and increasing the English capacity of women leaders and future women leaders through our long-distance English and Mentor Programs. AIWR’s volunteer positions do not involve any travel – the volunteers teach from their own homes using Skype.

Volunteer requirements and details are as follows:

Teaching certification and experience: AIWR is seeking certified and experienced EFL teachers with native or near-native proficiency in English language skills. Because the volunteer positions focus on high-quality mentoring as well as English language skills, AIWR seeks experienced teachers who can model professionalism and provide mentoring in professional development as well as provide English language tutoring.
Due to the Afghan culture and for the safety of the Afghan girls in our program, our Afghan partners require that we work with female teachers.
High speed internet and Skype: Volunteers need a reliable computer, high-speed internet, Skype software (free software is found at www.skype.com), and a headset.
One-to-one ratio: The volunteers will need to be available to teach one student for two sessions a week for a minimum of three months. Each class session runs for one hour.
Afghanistan schedule: We currently have one opening in Afghanistan during the morning hours (generally between 5:00 and 10:00 a.m.), one opening for evening hours (6:00 to 9:00 pm) and several openings in the afternoon at 2:00 pm or 3:00 pm, Saturday through Wednesday (Afghanistan time).
Time zone conversion: Interested applicants should determine if they are available during these times: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html. We ask that applicants please determine their availability during the required hours before applying.
Due to AIWR’s limited capacity, we are only able to respond to candidates who meet the listed qualifications, who are available at the requested times, and who can commit for a minimum of three months.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer teacher, please complete an application form, found on our website (www.aiwr.org), and submit the form with your resume or CV to Anne at [email protected]. Thank you!
