The Volunteer’s Role

Our partner, Padre Fabretto believes that education empowers children and youth, future leaders of Nicaragua and is a way to break the poverty circle. They work using a holistic approach to education that involves the whole community. Padre Fabretto has seven education centers that support over 50 schools in partnership with the Ministry of Education, public and private, in the most vulnerable rural and urban communities across the country.
Fabretto delivers three educational programs recognized at the international levels by organizations such as Lego Foundation, Ashoka, y World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE): Early Education Program, Primary Education Program and Technical and Vocational Program.

All Fabretto programs promote transversal themes such as health and food security, gender equality, violence provention, community development, environmental conservation.
We are looking for a volunteer to develop and implement an English program (TEFL) in the Fabretto educational centres for children and youth participating in their programs. As the ESL Advisor, you will be asked to adopt the curriculum of weekly classes to offer high-quality classes and supervise the implementation in one or two of Pdre Fabretto's centres.

As a volunteer, you will:
- Advise on the development of an English program for Fabretto Centres.
- Provide support in developing the curriculum for the English program.
- Train teachers and volunteers in teaching English.
- Develop a proposal for how to involve foreign volunteers in the implementation of the program.
- Teach English for the pilot of the new program.

Essential Academic Qualifications:
- Bachelor Degree in Education or other relevant studies.
- Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language.

Essential Professional Background:
- Two years of experience in education.
- Experience in planning and teaching English courses.
- Experience in development of curriculum.

Support Package
- Modest monthly living allowance (varies depending country)

- Pre-departure training and in-country orientation
- Travel and accommodation for reintegration debriefing weekend
- Modest support for accompanying partners and dependents going on placement with you for 12 months or longer (Return flight, emergency medical insurance, vaccinations)
- Access to Employee Assistance Program while in placement and upon return
- Cuso International assessment day (Candidates must cover the first $200 of the most cost-effective travel expenses and all accommodation costs).
- Travel and accommodation for the five-day pre-departure training course and for in-country orientation
