Job and Recruiting Process Overview

Interac Co., Ltd is seeking skilled native-level English speakers currently residing in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan to fill elementary, junior high, and high school ALT (Assistant Language Teacher) positions across Japan starting August 2017, as well as for future positions in Fall 2017 and Spring 2018.

Working as an ALT, you will enrich the lives of children by sharing your knowledge of English and communication skills and giving insight into other cultures. Your job is two-fold: language instructor and cultural ambassador. These two aspects are inseparable, and you, as a successful Interac ALT, will become an expert in both. You can expect to teach classes on your own, with a Japanese teacher present to help manage the classroom.

What we are looking for

Other than having the mental aptitude and the desire to accept the challenge of living and working overseas, before submitting an application to become an Interac teacher, you must:

○ Be a native-level speaker of English.
○ Have acquired an education delivered in English for at least 12 years.
○ Have graduated or about to graduate from a university with at least a bachelorís degree (in any subject).
○ Be professional in all aspects of behavior-a team player, flexible, cheerful, and energetic.

While not required, it helps your chances if you:

○ Hold a driverís license.
○ Have prior teaching experience.
○ Have a teaching qualification?e.g., CELTA, TEFL, etc.
○ Have the experience of studying a second language at school or university.
○ Can speak some basic Japanese.

Each successful ALT undergoes a thorough application and screening process.

For applicants living in the United States:

We have a team of recruiting representatives based in the United States who will receive and process your application. If you pass the initial application screening, a recruiter will contact you for a phone interview to find out more about you and ask some questions regarding your work history, education, and interest in working and living in Japan. If the recruiter feels you have potential, you will be invited to an informational seminar and face-to-face interview. These are scheduled regularly in major cities across the United States, generally in the following cities over several months: Chicago, IL, Columbus, OH, Dallas, TX, Denver, CO, Los Angeles, CA, Minneapolis, MN, Nashville, TN, New York/Newark, NY, Orem, UT, Orlando, FL, Phoenix, AZ, Portland, OR, San Francisco, CA, Seattle, WA, Spokane, WA, and Washington, DC.

Please note that while online interviews may be granted in exceptional circumstances, we really appreciate your flexibility in being able to meet with us face-to-face. Additionally, other cities may be added to this list.

In order to be considered for an interview you must submit an application and pass our initial assessment process. Details of the interviews (dates, times, locations, etc.) will only be provided to successful applicants.

The Life and Work of an ALT

If you pass our screening process and receive a job offer you will complete a comprehensive initial orientation and training program in Japan before going on to your assignment. Regardless of your prior teaching experience, we will equip you with the practical skills you need to be an effective Interac ALT. We also offer an ongoing training program so that you can further develop your skills.

Interac ALTs generally work Monday to Friday, with assignments scheduled between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm. From time to time, you may be required to work outside of these hours for things like school events.

Prior to arriving in Japan, an apartment is arranged on your behalf as close as possible to where you will be working. The apartments are intended to accommodate one person. Interac will assist in the connection of utilities and associated services.

Our staff will also assist with securing the proper visa and other travel documentation necessary for you to live and work in Japan.
