Posted By: British Council
Date: Monday, 19 May 2014, at 4:27 p.m.

British Council Bulgaria is recruiting for enthusiastic and experienced English Teachers to join our professional team in September 2014. The contracts are initially for a period of eleven months until the end of July 2014 with the possibility of extension of up to two years, contingent on successful completion of a 3 month probationary period.

As a member of the team in a growing Teaching Centre, you will work closely with fellow Teachers and the Senior Teacher you will support in delivering high quality English language teaching and courses. You will be guaranteed a minimum 14 hours for the first nine months of work, and may teach up a maximum of 24 teaching a week during term time (the average number of teaching hours per week is about 18. Our teachers have no difficulty getting as many teaching hours as they seek, and enjoy a great standard of living). Experience in working with children from 5-18 years is essential.

Bulgaria is still surprisingly inexpensive compared to the rest of Europe. http://www.priceoftravel.com/2616/europes-cheapest-major-city-sofia-bulgaria-unexpectedly-posh/

The Bulgarian Lev is fixed to the Euro at 1 Euro= 1.96 Leva. In a local restaurant, salads are between 4-8 Leva, main meals from 8-12 Leva and beer around 2 Leva. Public transport is 1 lev anywhere in the city limits, and taxis and entertainment are cheap. Internet connection speeds are among the top 10 in the world. Accommodation costs around 600 Leva per month for a 1 bedroom apartment in the city centre.

Bulgaria is a mountainous country with many opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, with a skiing mountain 10km from Sofia centre, and hiking and Black Sea beaches in warmer months. http://bulgariatravel.org/

Our teachers enjoy the highest level of training in Bulgaria, including support in gaining qualifications including DELTA and CELTYL. Our teachers can take advantage of the opportunities for career development as part of the British Council global network, and our teaching operations are closely linked to our cultural work in the arts, science, and education in Bulgaria.
