Travel Writers Wanted!

Posted By: Way Beyond Borders <>
Date: Tuesday, 21 January 2014, at 10:25 a.m.

We are once again putting the call out for submissions to Way Beyond Borders, our online travel portal! Our mission is to provide a place where globetrotters the world over can drop in, swap stories, photos and videos, share advice and oh-so-much more! We are working to become an online meeting place for those looking to travel anywhere and those who have already been there. In the last 16 months or so, articles published on WBB have been picked up and shared by tourism bureaus and magazines in Germany, Switzerland, Australia and the United States, and we were named one of the top ten new fave sites by an online UK travel mag in 2013!

We invite ALL TRAVEL WRITERS OUT THERE, BIG AND SMALL, TALENTED AND ONLY SLIGHTLY SO to get in touch and give us a taste of their experiences; that is, after all, what makes OUR world go 'round! Please visit us online at, and skate on over to the submissions specs page at to get a feel for the kind of story we're looking for. When stories don’t get accepted, more often than not it’s because they are too ‘first person narrative’ and not enough of a travel piece that shares stuff from which other writers can benefit, so keep that in mind when you’re reading the submission specs.

Way Beyond Borders is the culmination of the experience and dedication to globetrotting that comes from years of travel to destinations far and wide. Every member of the Way Beyond Borders team has donned a backpack and has headed out into the big wide world, looking for adventure and finding it everywhere! Our website is working to bring together country profiles, news stories, travel articles, photos, videos and interviews, all either created by our seasoned team members or submitted by our travel savvy readers. We have been up and running for over a year now and though we’ve suffered a few hiccups and bumps along the way, we’re looking forward to a highly productive 2014!

If you have been anywhere in the world you've found wonderful, interesting, quirky or outrageous, or any other cool adjective you can think of, we want to read a story about it. From the dark, smoky alleys of Casablanca to the outstretched rocky cliffs around the Cape of Good Hope; from the cold square architecture of North Korea to the old dusty huts of Southern Africa; and from the exotic cuisine of East Asia to the down home goodness of Southern grits, we want to know what you've experienced. If it happened on this big spinning marble, visitors to our site are going to love reading about it.

As we are still an upstart, we can currently offer little more than our thanks, a professional online showcase for your work, an author bio with picture and links to your own sites if you’ve got ‘em and, of course, a byline for your portfolio. That's a fancy shmancy way of saying we can't pay you, but we'll do our best to make you famous! (see our note above about our articles getting picked up and shared!)

Submitted articles can be of any length, but between 1000 and 2000 words is considered a good size. Photos, of course, are always a welcome addition and any you send along will also be considered for publication. You don't need to be a professional writer; our editorial team can work wonders! As long as you can make the spirit of 'anywhere-in-the-world' travel shine through, we can do the rest. Down the road we expect to publish a Way Beyond Borders book, a collection of some of our best stories; writers whose stories are chosen for that will be paid, as will other writers when our site becomes the global phenomenon we know it can be!

We are excited about our site and, more importantly, what this amazing world has to offer the globetrotting traveller, armchair and intrepid alike. We hope that excitement is catching, so that all of our writers and readers end up spreading the word: the world is just awesome!

Finally, please 'like' us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter (@waybeyondborder no "s"), to keep up on all of our news and the latest additions to the Way Beyond Borders site.

Lotsa Love!

The Way Beyond Borders Team
