Posted By: AILA <>
Date: Wednesday, 4 December 2013, at 11:19 a.m.

The American International Language Academy (AILA), also known as A1 Language School, is an afternoon cram school located in Hsinchu, Taiwan. The school is 40 miles south of Taipei and provides English language training to students aged 6 to 16. We believe an interdisciplinary curriculum is important for students learning English. As such, we recently introduced science-based lessons and are emphasizing the importance of emotional intelligence. We are in the process of restructuring our core curriculum and are looking for creative and engaging teachers who have a strong desire to make a difference in EFL teaching and learning. In particular, we will be hiring one experienced EFL teacher to start as soon as possible.

Applicants must have a strong command of English grammar for Grades K-6, including a solid understanding of sentence structures, parts of speech, punctuation, etc. Applicants must have experience with and be comfortable creating their own curriculum using a basic framework that includes subjects such as spelling, grammar, reading, and conversational skills. Applicants must speak clearly, enunciating consonants, vowels, and blends. Applicants must be able to plan daily lessons that are organized, structured, innovative, and creative. Finally, applicants will be expected to collaborate with fellow teachers on the curriculum and motivational strategies for the students. Applicants with science, music, history, and math backgrounds are encouraged to apply to further our integrated approach to teaching and learning English as a foreign language.

Please visit our website ( and facebook page ( to see pictures of our classrooms, current and past teachers, and your potential students.

6. Applicants do not need to know Mandarin Chinese.
7. The annual salary is $35,000 USD pre tax and $26,400 USD after taxes, including the optional bonus.
8. The contract is for a 12-month term and 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday.
Benefits include health insurance, dental insurance, and seven days of paid vacation upon completion of contract terms in addition to national holidays, and reimbursement of round-trip airfare to and from permanent address.

The experience of teaching English in Taiwan is challenging yet phenomenal, an experience that most people never forget. Since cost of living is relatively low in Hsinchu, teachers tend to save enough to pay off significant portions of their student loans and the like.
