Kang Ning English School (KNES) is a private English school established in 1986. The school has two departments, the Language Department, with mainly elementary and secondary school students, and Kindergarten Department (KD), with 3-6 years olds. Some of the LD students meet twice a week for English instruction and some come every day for different subjects in English. The KD students come every day for all subjects in English. We currently have thirteen full-time English-native-speaking teachers from all over the world. We provide a positive, stable & supportive educational environment with English speaking staff. The foreign teachers”¦ turnover rate is one of the lowest in Hsinchu county. We are looking for English native-speaking educators with teaching passion and professionalism. The school is located in zhudong(or spelled as Chutung, Judong), Hsinchu County, with three branches within 15 minutes of drive. Zhudong is a medium-sized town with a population of 100,000. There are 4 universities and 3 colleges nearby. It takes 30 minutes to get to the ocean and 5 minutes to the mountains by car. It is about 70-minute drive to Taipei, the capital and biggest city of Taiwan. Neighboring areas (within 30 minutes of drive) include: Jhubei, Hsinchu city & the Science Park (Taiwan Silicon Valley).

V. Teachers”¦ comments
Rebecca Sliger - USA, 2 years with KNES
After working in other schools and countries I was very impressed by the professionalism and "family" type environment at Kang Ning English School. I had never been to Taiwan and didn't know what to expect, but after interviewing with Serena (the owner) I felt a sense of confront. After applying for a teaching position I was contacted within days of my application about the job. The interview process was professional, but at the same time you feel like you're not only were talking to a potential employer, but someone you would like to spend a weekend with.
Taiwan is an amazing place. The weather is great, the people are friendly and Taiwan has a lot of offer. Jhudong (Chutung) is a small town, but it has everything you need. I personally enjoy living in a smaller town, but having the option of going to bigger city within minutes. Hsinschu which is only a 20 minute bus ride away is a great place to hangout on the weekend. I've never lived in a place where a scooter was real option of transportation, but here, it's the way to go. The HSR (High Speed Rail) is close and you can get to Taipei in 30 minutes.
My overall experience working at Kang Ning and living in Taiwan is memorable. I plan on living and working here for a while and I highly recommend teaching here. Kang Ning has a great staff and everyone bends over backwards to help with you with anything you need. I look actually look forward going to work everyday. I never thought of myself as a teacher, but I feel a connection with both the children and staff. To all those who are debating on teaching abroad Kang Ning English School is the place to be :)

Kang Ning is one of the best and well managed schools that I”¦ve worked at while living in Taiwan. Everyone is extremely friendly, kind, professional, and thoughtful. We are all able to communicate well with each other. The school is also more than willing to help teachers find accommodation, assist with work permits, arrange transportation, and help with anything that we might need.
The curriculum is highly organized and the workload is not too strenuous. It is easy to follow the class schedule and to arrange any and all teaching aids. Each teacher also gets full support from Serena (owner), head teachers, teaching assistants, and the rest of the school staff. We are also encouraged to help each other with teaching aids, and ideas for the classroom when necessary. The school is also open to ideas from teachers concerning new materials for classes. We are all motivated to teach our students to the best of our ability because the students enjoy attending our classes. Students are encouraged to do their best and generally they are wonderful to teach. I find that Kang Ning students are free and open to speaking English all the time in class. It is easy to establish a close teacher-student bond from the very beginning.
Jhudong is situated on the foot of a mountain so it is a quiet little town. There are many restaurants, night markets, a park, a swimming pool, and it is easy to find a hiking trail. Hsinchu City is only about 20 minutes away, close to the beach for swimming and cycling, and the High Speed Rail is only 15 minutes away from the school so it”¦s fast and convenient to get to any city from Taipei to Kaoshiung.

When Serena telephoned me in London to interview me, I was cooking lunch. I sat on my kitchen floor and was utterly relaxed, helped by Serena”¦s warmth and professionalism. It was partly on the strength of our exchange that I decided to accept the job offer.
Kang Ning is a private English language school established 20 years ago with 500 students. The students are encouraged to speak only English while at school. A structured curriculum for every level enables teachers to plan lessons according to the students”¦ needs. The maximum class size is 16 students. Books and other resources are readily available. The main branch at Judong houses the kindergarten and an impressive library; and offers free lunches. Although the branch at Erchong, 3 km away, is smaller, it is a cosy place to work in. Staff are genuinely kind and supportive. Apart from school-related and necessary matters (visa, accommodation), they will help with anything, from making a hospital appointment to buying tickets for a rock concert! The occasional free or heavily subsidised staff trips offer the opportunity for foreign and local staff to get together for fun.
Judong is a small but bustling town with a river surrounded by a low range of mountains, and has all the usual amenities. For those needing more excitement, it is an easy bus ride away to Hsinchu (30 minutes) and Taipei (1½ hours).

Moving to Kang Ning has been very rewarding for me as a teacher. From day 1 I was amazed at the level of competence the students possessed. As a result of the environment as well as the quality of the teachers they”¦ve had, the kids here have developed really strong language skills. The staff members here are friendly, helpful and very experienced, which made the transition here really easy. With innovative programs like the Whale and Dolphin classes, kids have room to develop at various levels, whether they”¦ve studied English before. With our new Panda class we hope to keep that success going into the future.

When my wife and I interviewed at Kang Ning we were impressed by the professionalism and organization of the school.
Rather than just accepting our application for employment based on our native speaking ability and experience, Serena (the owner of the school) asked us to demo teach portions of a class individually and then interviewed us personally. I enjoy the classes that I teach here; the level of the students is generally much higher than other students that I have taught in other schools while in Taiwan. Classes are relatively small and being able to refer to a fully formed curriculum really cuts down on my overall preparation time.
Chutung itself is a nice little town/city close to Hsinchu in north western Taiwan. It is small but has many conveniences such as drug stores, western fast food, a great night market and some good, cheap restaurants. It is close enough to Hsinchu that whatever you need but cannot find here is only a short distance away. On top of that it is probably the prettiest place that we have lived in almost 5 years in Asia and is surrounded by mountains that are excellent for weekend scooter rides and hikes. Rent is cheap and Taipei is only a 90 minute bus ride or a short High Speed Rail ride away so even though it has a small town feel it isn”¦t isolated from places with more cultural attractions and activities.

I love the students at Kang Ning. They are enthusiastic and eager to learn. This makes teaching at Kang Ning such a rewarding experience. I believe that students should learn through fun and innovative ways. At Kang Ning a teacher's creative juices are allowed to flow, the staff are supportive which leads to an environment which stimulates learning and self expression.

Kang Ning is a nice school with a positive and healthy learning environment. It is very well organized, the staff is friendly and not stressed and the materials for the curriculum help a teacher provide a very productive learning environment for students. The students range in ages from pre-K through High School. All the students are such a joy to teach. They really want to learn English and can't wait to get to their Kang Ning English School. It really is a great place to work.
Zhudong is a nice smaller city close to Hsinchu, located in Hsinchu county. There are many things to do in Jhudong since it has a night market and park close within the city limits. It is also very close to the mountains, which was great for a hiker like myself. The people are very friendly and are patient if your Chinese is not so good. Jhudong is also only a short bus ride away from Taipei if you need a lot more excitement for the day or evening.
Rafe Walters - UK, 2 years with KNES
As an experienced ”„long term”¦ teacher in Taiwan, I have found working at Kang Ning to be a refreshing experience. The curriculum is well organised, and students are encouraged to be creative, thoughtful and curious. The environment is designed to promote learning in a holistic way so children learn English in a variety of settings and from a varied staff of foreign teachers. The kindergarten is colourful and bright with excellent resources and very happy students. The language department is very focused and I have been impressed with the high level of English within the school.
I would certainly recommend working at Kang Ning and experiencing the more laid back lifestyle of rural Taiwan. Jhudong is a convenient town with some truly beautiful mountain scenery just a short drive or hike away!

I work at the Erchong campus of Kang Ning and I love it! The staff is simply wonderful. They have always been friendly and helpful. Their help ranges from big to small things like helping me find an apartment to helping me explain things to my classrooms. I've done a lot of tutoring prior to this job but this was the first time I had ever taught a class. I was really nervous but working with Serena and the other staff members I was able to establish a fun and educational classroom environment. Every class level has their own syllabus which means I didn't need to spend time creating my own lesson plans. However we are still in charge of our own classrooms so how we teach the material is up to us, whether its through playing games or singing songs.
Hsinchu is a great place to live. It's so close to Taipei that I find myself going there every other weekend. The transportation throughout Taiwan is amazing and you can literally get anywhere in the country in a day. Since I've been here I've been able explore many different
areas in Taiwan and experience all the amazing foods and culture that is offered. There are staff trips that are also very fun, allowing us to explore more of the country and to bond with other staff members, either for free or heavily subsidized. Over at the Erchong campus we
occasionally have dinners or go sing karaoke after class. I like the feeling that I'm working with friends rather than just co-workers.
