Teachers Needed in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan

Posted By: Hiraoka English Academy <heaalan@c-able.ne.jp>
Date: Tuesday, 27 October 2009, at 9:15 a.m.

Hiraoka English Academy is looking to fill a full time or a part-time position for native English speakers to teach children and adults starting in January, 2010. Our school was opened 20 years ago to serve the local community. We have grown over the years, but our relative size is small. The students range from 3 years old to adult. Class size at our school is no more than 8. Some classes are large, taught at community centers and preschools. A driver’s license is required.

Hofu is located on the western end of the main island of Honshu in Yamaguchi Prefecture, about 30 minutes by bullet train west of Hiroshima. It is astride the Inland Sea and easily linked to other coastal cities by rail. Hofu is a small town with a population of 120,000 and there are many opportunities for learning about Japanese culture such as pottery or tea ceremony. It is surrounded by mountains, but is easily manageable by bike.

More than half of the classes are children’s classes, therefore, we are seeking applicants who are interested in and enjoy teaching children. At HEA, teachers build their own lesson plans, so there is a lot of room for creativity and new ideas. Teaching experience is not required, but would be helpful. Training and a great deal of support is provided. The school’s homepage can be viewed at: http://ic.39.kg/hiraoka/

For a full time position with a contract for one year renewable by mutual consent, in return for 40 hours worked per week, the remuneration will be 250,000 yen per month with a completion bonus of 50,000 –100,000 yen. Summer and winter vacations are included. Full visa sponsorship, health insurance and a spacious, modern, furnished, 2 level, 4-bedroom house (to be shared with another teacher) is available for teachers. No key money is needed. For part-time positions, only applicants with a working holiday visa, spouse visa or the like will be considered.

Applicants please send the following information to the address below:
1) Resume or CV
2) Current photo
3) Copy of University Diploma
4) Copy of Passport
