Become an English Language Fellow! Georgetown University is currently accepting applications from TESOL professionals for ten-month fellowships in over 80 countries around the world

Opportunities are for U.S. citizens with a Master’s degree in TESL/TEFL, Applied Linguistics, or TESL focus.

Eligibility requirements:
• U.S. Citizenship
• Master's degree with a focus in TESL/TEFL experience
• Degree must be conferred by end of spring semester 2010
• Fellows must have minimum two years of professional TESL/TEFL experience; both teacher training and curriculum/materials development experience are helpful.
• Senior Fellows must have minimum four years of teacher training experience; overseas experience in TEFL is helpful.

Assignments are for a 10-month period typically beginning in September 2010, following a mandatory 3-day pre-departure orientation for selected Fellows in Washington, DC in August.

Fellows serve as full-time teachers of English as a foreign or second language to diverse groups, ranging from college students to professionals. They teach up to 20 classroom hours of English per week. Fellows may also participate in or organize additional activities, such as curricula and materials development, lesson plans, pre-service training, in-service training, workshops, and seminars.

Senior Fellows serve primarily as teacher trainers and may be engaged in supervision, advising, ESP instruction, curriculum/materials development, test design, assessment, evaluation, programming, research, and outreach projects.

The English Language (EL) Fellow Program promotes English language learning around the world and fosters mutual understanding between the people of the United States and people of other countries. The program places highly qualified teachers in funded professional positions on projects initiated by U.S. embassies in all regions of the world. It is an opportunity for ESL practitioners to enrich their professional development as they contribute to cross-cultural awareness throughout the world.

The EL Fellow Program is funded by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. As a program administrator, Georgetown University's Center for International Education and Development is recruiting applicants for approximately 100 positions for the 2010-2011 academic year.

As a premier, competitive opportunity to work on TESL/TEFL projects in developing countries, the EL Fellow Program received over 350 applications for 90 available projects in the AY 2009-2010 cycle. Applicants are encouraged to submit an application before the priority deadline of March 1, 2010.

• Applying fellowship experience (not to exceed 500 words)

Program provisions:
• Stipend: Fellows - $25,000; Senior Fellows - $35,000
• Living allowance (rent, utilities, local transportation)
• Textbook and predeparture allowances
• Supplementary health benefit plan
• Round trip airfare from the United States to the host country
