Cel Talk
![]()
Role playing dialogues, conversations, and phone number exercises get a new lift when students first make their own cel phones! I brought in a broken one for a model, and students were quite creative in making theirs with colored posterboard, inks, and glue. The number-alphabet pad must be accurate. Have the students put their names on their phones, and collect them in a big envelope at the end of each cel-phone activity. They enjoy "calling" each other much more than just talking in English. By the end of the semester, I discovered that issuing puppets to make the phone calls inspired my most reticent students. Puppets took on new personalities, and really got gabby!
