The Hotel That Jetsada Built
This is a variation on the old "The House That Jack Built" thing - you know, "..this is the dog that chased the cat that chased the rat that ate the straw that lay in the house that Jack built.." etc. etc. The idea is to have the students come up with their own versions. I did this with a bunch of Prathom 6 kids and it was a scream. One started with "..this is the hotel that Jetsada built - these are the guests that stayed in the hotel that Jetsada built - this is the crocodile that ate the guests that stayed in the hotel that Jetsada built..." etc.etc. The kids come up with each line and you write it on the board. I followed up by setting them the same exercise for homework, adhering to the same number of lines (I believe there are 9) in the original Jack thing. Some of them were extremely imaginative and marking them was highly amusing! The best ones were read out in class.
Another good one, not entirely dissimilar, is to get them to create their own limericks.
