When I say hello, my students say goodbye!
A nice song to use with a beginning class during the first couple of weeks of lessons is "Hello, Goodbye" by the Beatles. It has extremely simple vocabulary and structure. Moreover, most students, be they from Iraq or Mexico, know about the Beatles. This song is a perfect entry into utilizing music in ESOL classes. In fact, I used it in the secong week of classes of a beginning course. By that time, we had covered most of the vocabulary in the song. The students really liked it, though they didn't particularly care for my bad renditon of a Liverpoolian accent. S. Martin
