Silly Surreal Poetry
![]()
I work in a writing center, and have used this method with students that are having trouble writing complete sentences. Break students up into groups of 5. Hand each person a small slip of paper, and instruct them to write a noun at the top and fold it over, and pass the paper to the next person. The next person writes an adjective, and the sequence follows like this:
Noun/Adjective/Verb/Adjective/Noun. When they are through, each student reads the paper they ended up with, and modifies the words to grammatically make sense. WHat you have is a nonsense poem that is structured correctly!Amber Nelson
