"Deeper than the holler" - Comparatives
This is an excellent way to introduce comparatives on the first day.
Play the song "Deeper than the Holler" by Randy Travis.
Give the students a handout of the chorus with the comparatives
removed. (eg.. "My love is _______________________ the holler.")
Play the song again, pausing just before the first time the chorus is
played and tell the students to fill in as many of the missing words
as possible. The second time the chorus comes up, you might want to
pause after every sentence.Going over the answers is a great segue into a grammar lesson on
