Computer Screen Mystery
Using any computer that has word processing capabilities, I write up a sentence with any of the following errors; grammatical, punctuation, spelling (depending on what I want to reinforce and practice), then students correct the sentence on the screen using the mouse and keyboard. They may work in pairs, groups or individually. I find they may also argue and correct each other about what the error is and how to fix it. It's a great student-centred idea and it captures the attention. I also use this for separating one continuous sentence into words. This helps students recognize where a word ends and the next one begins. I teach mainly elementary children. These two activities keep their attention and make them work! They also practice computer skills.
