Music in Russia
I was in Russia two years ago and I was able to translate some English songs in to Russian for the students. They really enjoyed it, and it helped them to get an idea of English structure and some grammar. One of the songs was George Michael's "Careless Whisper", and it was a real treat to help the Russians in their pronunciation of the English language. I plan to go back to Russia long term to teach TESOL and will take with me copies of "West Side Story", "The Sound of Music" and "Fiddler on the Roof" to name a few. Russians really connect heavily with music and the theatre, and this would be an excellent way for them to make connections with the English language, while learning a little bit about other cultures at the same time.
