Reading Color Advertisements
I teach reading to students who are illiterate in their native language. It is very difficult with an almost non-existent budget for supplies, but using the color advertisements available in supermarkets is a good lesson for food and household items. You can ask the students to circle or put an 'X" or a check on pictures of specified vocabulary selections. They can cut out some of the pictures for an individualized dictionary/vocabulary list. They can make shopping lists, and the y can even practice basic math. They can fill a shopping cart for a particular meal, etc. The variety is endless, and the material is free.
