settling into class with diary-writing
![]()
I started doing simple diaries with some of my young students who were full of beans and hard to get settled into class. I made templates to write the date, the weather, and how they are feeling (these vocabulary words are posted around the classroom) I also included some space to write down a few target vocabulary words or phrases. I zip into the classroom as the students were arriving, and write a reminder to fill in their diaries, and any targets I wanted them to copy down. Students who had completed their entry by the time class started would get a small reward. Now my 'difficult' classes are ready to work when the class starts, and they have been using English independently even before the class starts.
