More Go Fish
I'm just submiting this to add a little zest to the "Go Fish" variations - a game which truly does stretch student ability - that is make it an "ENGLISH ONLY" game by telling the players that if they speak their native language, they lose their points! Teacher takes away the hard earned cards even when they say some word like "ai-ish" - which is Korean for ???????? Every language has something like that! Also, if they are ever so thrilled, they have to use the English expression (such as "Aha!" - Koreans say "Aasa!) It's tough, but middle school ages and up really work hard to keep those cards.
Try it and see if it doesn't change language efforts.
