Tell us about
This is great for small classes. Make a set of cards. On one side of each card is the phrase "Tell us about...." On the other side write various things the students can tell you about, eg a bad day, something dangerous they did, their favorite trousers, etc. My set has over a hundred cards. In class just have one student pick a card, and everybody has to tell the class about whatever is on that card.
Great for generating conversations, keep plying the students with questions to elicit all the details
