Who Knew - Guess what students like
This is a board game - I think the board game is spelled "Whonu" - but I adapted it to review all of the vocabulary in a Listening/Speaking class. I made cards of about 90 different vocabulary words from our semester and then also made some poker chip cards worth 10, 8, 6, 4, and 2 points.
With eight students, you can make four teams of two. When it's one person's turn - let's call her Yoko - her partner sits out. The other three teams each get four cards. From their four cards, they have to decide what Yoko likes best. Each team chooses two cards they think she likes, and then puts them in a box or an envelope. Yoko ends up with six cards, and she puts them in the order of what she likes. She places the ten point chip on the best thing, and then the eight point chip on the second best thing, and so on. Each team gets to keep the chip that she placed on their card. After every student gets a chance to have the others guess what they like, each team adds up their points.
It took about forty five minutes for my eight level 1 students to play. My cards included various things - from different foods, to different activities, to different times of year. I'm sure you can modify this in a bunch of different ways. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org
