Working their socks off
This is an idea we heard about on vacation in South Africa. It seems to have the required effect on teenagers 11-16. Disruptive individuals have their footwear confiscated. For an image-conscious teenager this does not look very cool. Who would want everyone staring at their feet ? It is also tends to keep the student from walking outside during breaks.
Once the student catches up with work, they are given back their footwear. If the student does not modify their behaviour, they can hand in their shoes at the start of day and collect them again when they go home.
Most students last about one day.
