Functions: spelling, listening and review of vocabulary.
Divide the class into two teams. Have them write the alphabet in order on their half of the board. Taking turns, students--armed with chalk/markers--try to circle all the letters in a word the teacher calls. First person to correctly circle all the letters earns a point for her/his team. Then players on each team change, and try circling the letters of a new word.
Award points equal to the number of letters in the word.
Insist on circling in order.
For higher level groups, give a hint for the word.
The board will get messy, so have the students erase and re-write letters after each go.
