So Much English in Christmas Cookie Baking!
I taught English in China for 11 years. The Chinese usually don't have ovens in their homes, so it was always exciting for my students when I'd have a group over to bake a few different kinds of Christmas cookies. They not only learned to bake (and cheap, small ovens are accessible to them), but they learned a lot of kitchen English in the process. I sometimes had them copy the recipes by hand to try to reach my learn-best-by-writing students. Listening, talking, laughing, kinesthetic learning - so much fun English goes on at baking parties!
