The Black Nose
![]()
I have been using the following disciplinary action to keep high school ESL students in check: If there is a particular student or just a few that are fooling around in class, I have them come up to the front of the class. This little trick works perfectly if you teach with a whiteboard; not as good with a chalkboard. Draw a small square at nose-level for the student with your marker (or chalk) and tell them that they need to stand and remain standing with their nose touching that black spot. It will add some hilarity to the class, and the student will be so embarassed as to not try the behavior again.
