No-Drudgery Drills
To take the monotony out of repetitive writing, I break the class into teams for writing assignments. I post colored paper sheets for each team, for each formula we're studying. (For example, when we were doing weather and activity verby, I labeled the sheets "rainy," "foggy," "snowy," etc.) Each student on each team has to write a sentence fitting the formula on a slip of paper and bring it to me for approval. If it's correct ("When it's foggy, I play computer games."), I put glue on the back and the student puts it on his team's page. If it's incorrect ("When it's foggy I reading a book.") I point out the error and have the student correct it.
Since the goal is a certain number of sentences from each student for each page, the game can work with unequal teams.
