It happened when?
Intermediate students who know very well how and when to use different tenses are often not able to use them readily. This speaking game is designed to get them to practice using a specific tense repeatedly for practice. Questions are handed out to students to ask one another. The rule is only that they must answer the question in a specific tense no matter the tense of question. So, to respond to "Are you playing tennis right now?" They must answer, (past simple exercise) "No I didn't play tennis today." Or, "Are you going to play tennis?" "No I didn't play tennis." The idea being to: in the short term allow practice with one particular tense while in the longterm get them to increase their versatility with regard to all tenses.
